Narrative:
During the preflight I noticed the performance computer was very troublesome to boot up; the first officer had to restart it several times to get it to operate properly. It worked normally after data was loaded and we operated the flight to destination. I was catching a ride home on the jumseat on the same aircraft. The operating crew of that flight noticed that the database of the computer was out of date by almost a year to the month. I think the troublesome start up of the laptop may have distracted us from noticing the out of date database.
