Narrative:
Requested push back clearance from D concourse. Ramp control cleared us for push back for and east taxi to runway 19L. I relayed the east taxi instructions to the push crew which began to push us back for a west taxi. Ramp control decided to let us continue the push and he would turn us around for the east taxi. Push back complete; we called for taxi instructions. We were told to watch the push off of C concourse and to make a right turn and proceed to the C line. The first officer verified we were still going to 19L;(which was behind us); and the ramp controller replied in the affirmative. Both the first officer and I took this to mean a 180 turn to the C line. After making the turn and lining up on the C line; the ramp controller said he wanted us to move to the C line and face east; not make a 180 turn which our company did not allow. He then instructed us to move back to the D line and follow company out to 19L. Time permitting; I again looked at the 10-7 page for any notes I may have missed concerning 180 turns in the alley. All I could find was jet blast warnings while moving from the C to the D line; (I used idle thrust through-out the turn). A note prohibiting 180 turns in the alley would be helpful.
