Narrative:
I had contacted approach about 3 to 5 min prior and they gave me a transponder code and asked altitude which I replied 11500'. They reported me 17 mi southwest. The small transport was first viewed in a steep climb from about 10 O'clock and about 1000' below. As soon as I understood its direction, I abruptly turned to the left and the small transport passed very close to my right. I called approach and reported the near miss and he said he was sorry and apologized, and he said he thought I had said 7500'. I did not know of this sort of form until an air safety meeting held last night at missoula by the AOPA, FAA.
