Narrative:
We briefed the departure on taxi. We were cleared RUUDY2 white intersection as filed. We both understood the SID and altitude instructions. After departure ATC advised us to expect radar vectors to elvae intersection with no further instructions. They then cleared us to 6;000 and direct elvae. We planned that once we reached elvae then we were cleared to white intersection. We did not realize that we needed to go to col (colts neck) after elvae. After elvae ATC asked if we were going direct colts neck and we replied 'negative; we are direct white.' ATC replied 'didn't we give you colts neck?' we replied 'negative.' ATC then cleared us direct colts neck and then gave us radar vectors to col. ATC then asked if we read the SID. It would have helped if ATC would have told us to expect elvae then colts neck. In our opinion the commercial chart SID is very confusing. The instructions are in very fine print on the bottom of the page.

Title: A Corporate Jet crew departed on the TEB RUUDY TWO RNAV and after ELVAE on the WHITE departure; started direct to WHITE because they did not realize COL was part of the departure route. The commercial chart format was part of the issue.
