Narrative:
Light transport operators in us are having a serious problem with aircraft gen bearing failures. In my occurrence I got an aircraft gen failure light shortly after turning on deicing equipment. This was followed by fluctuations in engine and propeller RPM. The F/a then reported thick black smoke coming from left engine nacelle. At this point we shut the left engine and diverted to jfk west/O incident. Our company has been having consistent problems with these aircraft gens made by xxxxx. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: there is no gen disconnect. Procedure calls for reducing the load, but that is generally too late and the gen proceeds to disintegrate. Reporter says aircraft power is used only for deice equipment. Supplemental information from acn 95828: our company has 5 light transport's and we've lost over 60 gens in about 18 months.

Title: ACR LTT ACFT EQUIPMENT PROBLEM GENERATOR FAILURE WITH SMOKE CAUSING DIVERSION TO ALTERNATE.
Narrative: LTT OPERATORS IN U.S. ARE HAVING A SERIOUS PROB WITH ACFT GEN BEARING FAILURES. IN MY OCCURRENCE I GOT AN ACFT GEN FAILURE LIGHT SHORTLY AFTER TURNING ON DEICING EQUIP. THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY FLUCTUATIONS IN ENG AND PROP RPM. THE F/A THEN RPTED THICK BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM LEFT ENG NACELLE. AT THIS POINT WE SHUT THE LEFT ENG AND DIVERTED TO JFK W/O INCIDENT. OUR COMPANY HAS BEEN HAVING CONSISTENT PROBS WITH THESE ACFT GENS MADE BY XXXXX. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: THERE IS NO GEN DISCONNECT. PROC CALLS FOR REDUCING THE LOAD, BUT THAT IS GENERALLY TOO LATE AND THE GEN PROCEEDS TO DISINTEGRATE. RPTR SAYS ACFT PWR IS USED ONLY FOR DEICE EQUIP. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 95828: OUR COMPANY HAS 5 LTT'S AND WE'VE LOST OVER 60 GENS IN ABOUT 18 MONTHS.
