Narrative:
I departed on an IFR flight plan to linden; nj (ldj). I requested the GPS a approach at ldj. I informed ATC of my intention to cancel IFR at bautz intersection. The controller stated that I would need to cancel IFR before turning right at bautz to enter the pattern at ldj. As I crossed the bautz intersection the controller; using non-standard phraseology; stated 'now or never.' I felt pressure to cancel IFR and canceled to comply with his request. The controller was busy and somewhat agitated and; although he did not say so; I considered a clearance into bravo implicit with the IFR cancellation since I was less than two minutes from entering the newark class B. The wind at newark was 290 degrees at 10 KTS. I entered a downwind for runway 27 at 1;000 ft MSL; 200 ft above the class B floor in that area. This controller did not inform me of any conflicting traffic before hastily acknowledging my cancellation. Far 91.119(b) requires a minimum altitude of 1;000 ft AGL above congested/ populated areas. Upon landing; the FBO asked me to call the newark tower. I was told an incoming jet to newark's runway 04 complained about me and that they would have to do an investigation. This event was isolated; inadvertent; and I was not informed of any loss of separation.
