Narrative:
Vectored to intercept ILS at 2000 ft and cleared for approach to runway 06 at teb. We armed flight guidance to shoot approach; however we missed the mandatory 1500 ft crossing restriction outside of FAF which flying glideslope will not comply with. It seems too simple that if ATC wants the pilot to cross a fix at 1500 ft this should be advised or [the flight should be] cleared to that altitude; rather than a standard type clearance of cleared to intercept the approach at an altitude which then requires a stepdown below glide slope to meet a crossing altitude. This seems more like a test on how well a pilot has read the approach rather than the movement towards standardization and safety.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A GIV flight crew reported failing to comply with the mandatory crossing altitude of 1500' at DANDY on the TEB ILS Runway 6 approach; contending the chart is not as clear as it might be.
