Narrative:

Approximately 2 hours into the [overwater] flight we lost the first officer's CDU display and all rt CDU functions. Checked the QRH and the flight manual and could find no reference to 'CDU failure'. Contacted dispatch and maintenance via phone patch. Maintenance advice was to use 'captain's emergency authority' to pull and reset circuit breaker. Circuit breaker was pulled; waited 30 seconds; and then reset. First officer's rt CDU power; display and function were restored. Maintenance advised that they would write up repeat problem and coordinate for a new CDU to be shipped. Flt continued and landed without further incident. Safety concern that no reference to CDU failure (one or both) is contained in the QRH or flight handbook; and this can be an important issue especially during ETOPS operations.
