Narrative:
While in cruise at FL380 the first officer's display and the lower ECAM display went blank and displayed a white diagonal line and sounded a chime. All three displays returned to normal in about 3 or 4 seconds. Then 2 seconds later the problem repeated itself. This alternating condition continued for over an hour until short final into our diversion airport.all known checklists were followed and the captain worked with maintenance control the entire time to resolve the issue. The captain elected to divert for safety as this recurring failure would make working any other system failure difficult if not impossible.
