Narrative:
During preflight prior to departure; the captain who did the walk around and discovered a questionable maintenance repair in the left-hand (lh) main gear wheel well. The exact area of concern is on the forward bulkhead and it was obscured by several valves and steel lines. The captain and I both looked at the area in question and the captain seemed to think; based on his knowledge of maintenance procedures; that the repair was not accomplished correctly. He then contacted company maintenance to discuss the issue; and also had a contract mechanic at the station; look at the repair. The aircraft was eventually taken out of service and the flight canceled.
