Narrative:
At orl, at rotation, heard unusual noise (loud) like blown tire or tire cap. F/a's advised strong burning rubber smell in cabin, very slight in cockpit. Asked orl tower for runway check for rubber, debris, etc. They reported none. Continued flight toward denver. 62 NM from memphis #1 engine N1 spun rapidly down to 18% N1. Tried relight, egt rose over red line. Discontinued start. Initiated standard procedures. Landed mem. No evidence of ingestion of foreign matter in engine. Note: landing gear not retracted nor were slats retracted till orl tower advised through jax center that no debris or foreign matter found on runway. Amazing how many mechanicals we are experiencing and how many placards are on log book since FAA spotlight lifted off air carrier. No time to fix, no parts, no personnel, is line maintenance song now. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: on arrival mem tires all ok with no tread shed. Reporter stated did not feel like compressor stall, but on arrival no evidence of any ingestion or damage to fan blades. On arrival mechanics did motorize engine and just monitoring caused vibration in aircraft floor, so suspect bearing failure. No follow up from FAA. Reporter again emphasized how poor their maintenance has become.

Narrative: AT ORL, AT ROTATION, HEARD UNUSUAL NOISE (LOUD) LIKE BLOWN TIRE OR TIRE CAP. F/A'S ADVISED STRONG BURNING RUBBER SMELL IN CABIN, VERY SLIGHT IN COCKPIT.
