Narrative:
I, the pilot, being cleared through intercontinental TCA and talking to houston approach had the airport in sight. I was told to contact the tower. After establishing contact I understood I was cleared to land on 12R. After landing and contacting ground control I was told to contact the control tower by telephone. When I called, the supervisor of the tower asked me what instruction was I given. I told him the above. He, the supervisor of the tower, said negative you were cleared to 12L. There was an small transport on final behind me and it had to go to 12L for landing. It had 6 FAA inspectors in it. They then wanted to see my pilots certificate which I did not have in my possession. I had my medical certificate and a&P certificate. There was not a logbook entry in the aircraft logbook that the transponder had been checked within the last 24 months. I also did not have altitude reporting capabilities and I was operating within 30 mi of a TCA. I was sure that I understood the tower's instructions as I was cleared to land on 12R. I think that if I had been wearing a headphone I could have understood more clearly the instruction.

Narrative: I, THE PLT, BEING CLRED THROUGH INTERCONTINENTAL TCA AND TALKING TO HOUSTON APCH HAD THE ARPT IN SIGHT. I WAS TOLD TO CONTACT THE TWR. AFTER ESTABLISHING CONTACT I UNDERSTOOD I WAS CLRED TO LAND ON 12R. AFTER LNDG AND CONTACTING GND CTL I WAS TOLD TO CONTACT THE CTL TWR BY TELEPHONE. WHEN I CALLED, THE SUPVR OF THE TWR ASKED ME WHAT INSTRUCTION WAS I GIVEN. I TOLD HIM THE ABOVE. HE, THE SUPVR OF THE TWR, SAID NEGATIVE YOU WERE CLRED TO 12L. THERE WAS AN SMT ON FINAL BEHIND ME AND IT HAD TO GO TO 12L FOR LNDG. IT HAD 6 FAA INSPECTORS IN IT. THEY THEN WANTED TO SEE MY PLTS CERTIFICATE WHICH I DID NOT HAVE IN MY POSSESSION. I HAD MY MEDICAL CERTIFICATE AND A&P CERTIFICATE. THERE WAS NOT A LOGBOOK ENTRY IN THE ACFT LOGBOOK THAT THE XPONDER HAD BEEN CHECKED WITHIN THE LAST 24 MONTHS. I ALSO DID NOT HAVE ALT REPORTING CAPABILITIES AND I WAS OPERATING WITHIN 30 MI OF A TCA. I WAS SURE THAT I UNDERSTOOD THE TWR'S INSTRUCTIONS AS I WAS CLRED TO LAND ON 12R. I THINK THAT IF I HAD BEEN WEARING A HEADPHONE I COULD HAVE UNDERSTOOD MORE CLEARLY THE INSTRUCTION.
