Narrative:

Small aircraft X was climbing eastbound and being worked by me. Approximately position of occurrence was 25 northeast ord VORTAC. I was busy with ord jet departures and mdw departures and failed to notice an inbound air carrier from sbn approach at 7000' on V100. When I noticed the confliction, the aircraft were at the same altitude opposite direction and approximately 3 mi apart. I turned small aircraft X left 50 degree and pointed out the traffic then told the arrival controller what I was doing. He then told the air carrier to climb to 8000' as quickly as possible, the aircraft passed 1.75 mi apart at the same altitude. The aircraft never saw each other. At the time I turned small aircraft X east from a southeast heading into the climb corridor, there were no inbnds on V100. As I got busy, I failed to recheck his climb rate. He was climbing from 4000 to 9000.

Title: A DEPARTING SMA CONFLICTED WITH AN ARRIVING ACR RESULTING IN LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION.

Narrative: SMA X WAS CLIMBING EBND AND BEING WORKED BY ME. APPROX POSITION OF OCCURRENCE WAS 25 NE ORD VORTAC. I WAS BUSY WITH ORD JET DEPS AND MDW DEPS AND FAILED TO NOTICE AN INBND ACR FROM SBN APCH AT 7000' ON V100. WHEN I NOTICED THE CONFLICTION, THE ACFT WERE AT THE SAME ALT OPPOSITE DIRECTION AND APPROX 3 MI APART. I TURNED SMA X LEFT 50 DEG AND POINTED OUT THE TFC THEN TOLD THE ARR CTLR WHAT I WAS DOING. HE THEN TOLD THE ACR TO CLIMB TO 8000' AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE, THE ACFT PASSED 1.75 MI APART AT THE SAME ALT. THE ACFT NEVER SAW EACH OTHER. AT THE TIME I TURNED SMA X E FROM A SE HDG INTO THE CLIMB CORRIDOR, THERE WERE NO INBNDS ON V100. AS I GOT BUSY, I FAILED TO RECHECK HIS CLIMB RATE. HE WAS CLIMBING FROM 4000 TO 9000.
