Narrative:
Air carrier X en route from bos to jfk through oceanic approach airspace. Approximately 6 mi east of the radar antenna the ARTS tag dropped off and did not reacquire. As a result and due to the volume of traffic at the time, air carrier X strayed into new york approach airspace without a handoff from us. Thus there occurred a system deviation. The error was discovered when new york approach observed air carrier X in their airspace and called us. Suggestions to prevent a recurrence: 1) improve reliability of ARTS system. 2) make sure to correlate flight strips with targets during position relief. 3) do not overextend yourself as far as volume of traffic being worked.

Title: UNCOORD PENETRATION OF AIRSPACE. OPERATIONAL DEVIATION.
Narrative: ACR X ENRTE FROM BOS TO JFK THROUGH OCEANIC APCH AIRSPACE. APPROX 6 MI E OF THE RADAR ANTENNA THE ARTS TAG DROPPED OFF AND DID NOT REACQUIRE. AS A RESULT AND DUE TO THE VOLUME OF TFC AT THE TIME, ACR X STRAYED INTO NEW YORK APCH AIRSPACE WITHOUT A HANDOFF FROM US. THUS THERE OCCURRED A SYSTEM DEVIATION. THE ERROR WAS DISCOVERED WHEN NEW YORK APCH OBSERVED ACR X IN THEIR AIRSPACE AND CALLED US. SUGGESTIONS TO PREVENT A RECURRENCE: 1) IMPROVE RELIABILITY OF ARTS SYSTEM. 2) MAKE SURE TO CORRELATE FLT STRIPS WITH TARGETS DURING POSITION RELIEF. 3) DO NOT OVEREXTEND YOURSELF AS FAR AS VOLUME OF TFC BEING WORKED.
