Narrative:
Departed winston-salem, nc, on a regular scheduled flight. Mdt X contacting departure control (gso). We were cleared to climb from 2500' to 4000', and direct clt. While climbing through 3200' MSL, ATC advised traffic at 1 O'clock. While both the first officer and I were watching for traffic, the first officer (who was flying the aircraft) spotted the traffic at our 11:30 position. (The traffic was in my blind spot, caused by a windshield post.) the small aircraft Y (traffic watch) when first spotted was in a left bank toward our aircraft. The first officer immediately initiated a pull-up to avoid the aircraft. I observed small aircraft Y roll out of his bank and he passed off our left wing, approximately 300-500', at about our same altitude. The air traffic controller immediately apologized for her mistake. I feel ATC should have advised us of our distance sep when she first pointed out the traffic to us. We should have never been cleared to 4000' with traffic that close.

Title: NMAC BETWEEN MDT AND SMA INSIDE GSO AREA.
Narrative: DEPARTED WINSTON-SALEM, NC, ON A REGULAR SCHEDULED FLT. MDT X CONTACTING DEP CTL (GSO). WE WERE CLRED TO CLB FROM 2500' TO 4000', AND DIRECT CLT. WHILE CLBING THROUGH 3200' MSL, ATC ADVISED TFC AT 1 O'CLOCK. WHILE BOTH THE F/O AND I WERE WATCHING FOR TFC, THE F/O (WHO WAS FLYING THE ACFT) SPOTTED THE TFC AT OUR 11:30 POS. (THE TFC WAS IN MY BLIND SPOT, CAUSED BY A WINDSHIELD POST.) THE SMA Y (TFC WATCH) WHEN FIRST SPOTTED WAS IN A LEFT BANK TOWARD OUR ACFT. THE F/O IMMEDIATELY INITIATED A PULL-UP TO AVOID THE ACFT. I OBSERVED SMA Y ROLL OUT OF HIS BANK AND HE PASSED OFF OUR LEFT WING, APPROX 300-500', AT ABOUT OUR SAME ALT. THE AIR TFC CTLR IMMEDIATELY APOLOGIZED FOR HER MISTAKE. I FEEL ATC SHOULD HAVE ADVISED US OF OUR DISTANCE SEP WHEN SHE FIRST POINTED OUT THE TFC TO US. WE SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN CLRED TO 4000' WITH TFC THAT CLOSE.
