Narrative:
Air carrier X widebody transport originated at lax and terminated at ewr. Upon reaching the ny terminal area, the controller had informed us of a widebody transport aircraft that reported moderate to severe turbulence and instructed us to maintain 4000', and moments later 3000'. At that time shortly prior to making the approach the pilot of a light twin claimed to have abruptly pulled up to prevent from colliding with our aircraft. At no time did we see this aircraft as we were in IMC conditions. Our crew followed ATC instructions as well as company airlines SOP. The only unusual circumstance surrounding this event was the low altimeter setting, in which all of our onboard equipment was set correctly and verified by each crew member. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter states that he is not sure they were the other aircraft involved in the alleged near midair collision. He sent the report in just in case. They never saw another aircraft near them and were in IMC conditions for a considerable time. They were never asked to call ATC nor given any indication they might have been involved. Other aircraft that reported near midair collision was an small transport. Incident occurred about 10-20 mi west of teb.

Title: ACFT REPORTED HE HAD A NEAR MISS WITH A WDB.
Narrative: ACR X WDB ORIGINATED AT LAX AND TERMINATED AT EWR. UPON REACHING THE NY TERMINAL AREA, THE CTLR HAD INFORMED US OF A WDB ACFT THAT RPTED MODERATE TO SEVERE TURB AND INSTRUCTED US TO MAINTAIN 4000', AND MOMENTS LATER 3000'. AT THAT TIME SHORTLY PRIOR TO MAKING THE APCH THE PLT OF A LIGHT TWIN CLAIMED TO HAVE ABRUPTLY PULLED UP TO PREVENT FROM COLLIDING WITH OUR ACFT. AT NO TIME DID WE SEE THIS ACFT AS WE WERE IN IMC CONDITIONS. OUR CREW FOLLOWED ATC INSTRUCTIONS AS WELL AS COMPANY AIRLINES SOP. THE ONLY UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCE SURROUNDING THIS EVENT WAS THE LOW ALTIMETER SETTING, IN WHICH ALL OF OUR ONBOARD EQUIP WAS SET CORRECTLY AND VERIFIED BY EACH CREW MEMBER. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: RPTR STATES THAT HE IS NOT SURE THEY WERE THE OTHER ACFT INVOLVED IN THE ALLEGED NMAC. HE SENT THE RPT IN JUST IN CASE. THEY NEVER SAW ANOTHER ACFT NEAR THEM AND WERE IN IMC CONDITIONS FOR A CONSIDERABLE TIME. THEY WERE NEVER ASKED TO CALL ATC NOR GIVEN ANY INDICATION THEY MIGHT HAVE BEEN INVOLVED. OTHER ACFT THAT RPTED NMAC WAS AN SMT. INCIDENT OCCURRED ABOUT 10-20 MI W OF TEB.
