Narrative:
I was the captain, approaching srq on a right downwind into srq to runway 32 via approach. Tower had called traffic. The first officer recalls the tower calling out 2 targets. I remember only 1. As best I can recall it was given at our 2:30 position, below us, eastbound. That put the traffic, an small aircraft, almost 90 degrees off our right, heading 50 degrees to the left of our 140 degree heading at a substantial airspeed differential. The first officer and I were unable to locate the traffic. I began my right turn to base with an approximately 25-27 degree angle of bank. We both recall being told by the tower that the small aircraft had us in sight. While in the turn the first officer suddenly pointed out the traffic. We were on a direct collision course. I immediately increased the angle of bank. I don't recall what angle of bank I reached, but it was uncomfortable to me! The small aircraft passed right to left at our exact altitude, missing us horizontal by what I estimate was 150-200' maximum. I am convinced that if the first officer had not seen and pointed out the traffic as effectively as he did, we would have collided with the small aircraft. The small aircraft in no way appeared to be taking any action to avoid us. He was in wings level flight. If he was where the tower said he was, traveling in the direction they said he was with us in sight, it seems that he could easily have passed behind us, or at least at a different altitude. After the landing I notified the tower. At XA36 pm, notified the XXX station manager, and am submitting written reports to the airline as required.

Title: ACR TURNING BASE LEG CAME IN CLOSE PROX TO AN SMA.
Narrative: I WAS THE CAPT, APCHING SRQ ON A RIGHT DOWNWIND INTO SRQ TO RWY 32 VIA APCH. TWR HAD CALLED TFC. THE F/O RECALLS THE TWR CALLING OUT 2 TARGETS. I REMEMBER ONLY 1. AS BEST I CAN RECALL IT WAS GIVEN AT OUR 2:30 POS, BELOW US, EBND. THAT PUT THE TFC, AN SMA, ALMOST 90 DEGS OFF OUR RIGHT, HDG 50 DEGS TO THE LEFT OF OUR 140 DEG HDG AT A SUBSTANTIAL AIRSPD DIFFERENTIAL. THE F/O AND I WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE TFC. I BEGAN MY RIGHT TURN TO BASE WITH AN APPROX 25-27 DEG ANGLE OF BANK. WE BOTH RECALL BEING TOLD BY THE TWR THAT THE SMA HAD US IN SIGHT. WHILE IN THE TURN THE F/O SUDDENLY POINTED OUT THE TFC. WE WERE ON A DIRECT COLLISION COURSE. I IMMEDIATELY INCREASED THE ANGLE OF BANK. I DON'T RECALL WHAT ANGLE OF BANK I REACHED, BUT IT WAS UNCOMFORTABLE TO ME! THE SMA PASSED RIGHT TO LEFT AT OUR EXACT ALT, MISSING US HORIZ BY WHAT I ESTIMATE WAS 150-200' MAX. I AM CONVINCED THAT IF THE F/O HAD NOT SEEN AND POINTED OUT THE TFC AS EFFECTIVELY AS HE DID, WE WOULD HAVE COLLIDED WITH THE SMA. THE SMA IN NO WAY APPEARED TO BE TAKING ANY ACTION TO AVOID US. HE WAS IN WINGS LEVEL FLT. IF HE WAS WHERE THE TWR SAID HE WAS, TRAVELING IN THE DIRECTION THEY SAID HE WAS WITH US IN SIGHT, IT SEEMS THAT HE COULD EASILY HAVE PASSED BEHIND US, OR AT LEAST AT A DIFFERENT ALT. AFTER THE LNDG I NOTIFIED THE TWR. AT XA36 PM, NOTIFIED THE XXX STATION MGR, AND AM SUBMITTING WRITTEN RPTS TO THE AIRLINE AS REQUIRED.
