Narrative:
We were cleared to descend to 2700' and report hamilton airport in sight. At 2700' we tried to compact ZME, with no success. After returning to hab VOR we contacted MSL FSS and cancelled the IFR flight plan. When we landed I called ZME watch supervisor and he told me that the remote transmit is not close to hab and they loose contact at 2700' (why don't they let pilots know?).
