Narrative:

We (heavy turboprop) were cleared to land on 33L at islip, long island. We were short final when we noticed an small aircraft in front of us. A go around would not have been possible or practical due to closeness of aircraft and the small aircraft being at greater altitude. Supplemental information from acn 143179: cleared to land on runway 33L about 5 mi from the airport with no traffic reported to follow or in the area. At about 800' MSL noticed a small plane in front of us, at our altitude and speed (about 80 KTS faster than the small aircraft) we determined it would be better to maneuver under the small aircraft and land, which caused us to come within about 100' of the smaller plane.

Title: FLT CREW OF COMMUTER ACR MDT MAKING APCH AT ISP ENCOUNTERED AN UNKNOWN SMA ON SHORT FINAL AND AVOIDED HIM BY UNDERFLYING SMA BY 100'.

Narrative: WE (HVY TURBOPROP) WERE CLRED TO LAND ON 33L AT ISLIP, LONG ISLAND. WE WERE SHORT FINAL WHEN WE NOTICED AN SMA IN FRONT OF US. A GAR WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE OR PRACTICAL DUE TO CLOSENESS OF ACFT AND THE SMA BEING AT GREATER ALT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 143179: CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 33L ABOUT 5 MI FROM THE ARPT WITH NO TFC RPTED TO FOLLOW OR IN THE AREA. AT ABOUT 800' MSL NOTICED A SMALL PLANE IN FRONT OF US, AT OUR ALT AND SPD (ABOUT 80 KTS FASTER THAN THE SMA) WE DETERMINED IT WOULD BE BETTER TO MANEUVER UNDER THE SMA AND LAND, WHICH CAUSED US TO COME WITHIN ABOUT 100' OF THE SMALLER PLANE.
