Narrative:
During a very heavy traffic session I was working local control. Ground control requested to cross runway 27R at romeo for a heavy widebody transport. An large transport was on a 2 1/2 mi final for the same runway. Since the widebody transport was so slow crossing, ground control tried to stop the runway crossing, but I had already sidestepped the large transport to runway 27L. I reissued the runway crossing and put small transport in position on runway 27R. When the widebody transport was clear of the runway and the runway was scanned, I cleared small transport for takeoff and assistant local advised ground control that traffic was rolling on runway 27R. Ground control advised that an medium large transport was also crossing runway 27R. I cancelled small transport's takeoff clearance and he aborted his takeoff. Ground control cancelled the runway crossing immediately, however the medium large transport pilot did not respond on the first call. The medium large transport was crossed at the same time as the widebody transport, but was very slow. Ground said they asked for crossing which I did ot issue, but due to the high density traffic miscoms occurred. The medium large transport responded on the second call and held short. The small transport was at taxi speed passing the medium large transport. There was nothing I could have done, but I should have waited for a crossing complete to ensure.

Title: BREAKDOWN IN COORD BETWEEN LCL CTL AND GND CTL WHICH NEARLY CAUSED A GND COLLISION.
Narrative: DURING A VERY HEAVY TFC SESSION I WAS WORKING LCL CTL. GND CTL REQUESTED TO CROSS RWY 27R AT ROMEO FOR A HEAVY WDB. AN LGT WAS ON A 2 1/2 MI FINAL FOR THE SAME RWY. SINCE THE WDB WAS SO SLOW XING, GND CTL TRIED TO STOP THE RWY XING, BUT I HAD ALREADY SIDESTEPPED THE LGT TO RWY 27L. I REISSUED THE RWY XING AND PUT SMT IN POS ON RWY 27R. WHEN THE WDB WAS CLR OF THE RWY AND THE RWY WAS SCANNED, I CLRED SMT FOR TKOF AND ASSISTANT LCL ADVISED GND CTL THAT TFC WAS ROLLING ON RWY 27R. GND CTL ADVISED THAT AN MLG WAS ALSO XING RWY 27R. I CANCELLED SMT'S TKOF CLRNC AND HE ABORTED HIS TKOF. GND CTL CANCELLED THE RWY XING IMMEDIATELY,HOWEVER THE MLG PLT DID NOT RESPOND ON THE FIRST CALL. THE MLG WAS CROSSED AT THE SAME TIME AS THE WDB, BUT WAS VERY SLOW. GND SAID THEY ASKED FOR XING WHICH I DID OT ISSUE, BUT DUE TO THE HIGH DENSITY TFC MISCOMS OCCURRED. THE MLG RESPONDED ON THE SECOND CALL AND HELD SHORT. THE SMT WAS AT TAXI SPD PASSING THE MLG. THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD HAVE DONE,BUT I SHOULD HAVE WAITED FOR A XING COMPLETE TO ENSURE.
