Narrative:
I was cleared for the pomona four departure with the daggett transition which has two altitude restrictions; ie not above 8000' at the pomona VOR, but cross the 19 DME at 14000'. While in a right turn off runway 8 I was told to steepen up my turn proceed off the SID direct to the pomona VOR observe altitude restrictions. One DME I saw 8000' and started my climb to make the 14000' restriction. At 7 DME while I was at 10000' ontario departure control queried whether we made the crossing at 8000' at pomona. My copilot responded yes; he had told me we could have been at 8200'. He too felt when we were diverted off the SID the controller should have been more specific on what xings he still desired. It was my first ontario departure. I'll be wiser in the future, but for the sake of other pilots this procedure could be clarified. Thank-you.
