Narrative:

While I went to operations to obtain the release and WX, the first officer proceeded to the aircraft. Upon my arrival at the aircraft the first officer had the clearance, and since it was his leg to fly, already had the radios set. My only question was, 'are we cleared as filed?' to which he replied in the affirmative. Our filed route on the release read: clt. Cae. J53 sav. J103 orm. Bitho 5 mlb. On departure, shortly after leveling at 12000' the controller inquired what our airspeed was. I replied '300 KTS', which is our normal level flight airspeed. He informed me that the SID required us to maintain 250 KTS until advised. We immediately slowed to 250 KTS. The controller handed us off to atlanta center who also inquired if we were at 250 KTS. As we leveled at FL280, I informed the second jax center controller we had talked to we were 'still at 250 KTS'. He said 'normal speed' and the flight continued west/O further incident. In cruise flight I got out the hornet departure to see what I had missed, and during my second reading, caught the 250 KT restriction.

Narrative: WHILE I WENT TO OPS TO OBTAIN THE RELEASE AND WX, THE F/O PROCEEDED TO THE ACFT. UPON MY ARR AT THE ACFT THE F/O HAD THE CLRNC, AND SINCE IT WAS HIS LEG TO FLY, ALREADY HAD THE RADIOS SET. MY ONLY QUESTION WAS, 'ARE WE CLRED AS FILED?' TO WHICH HE REPLIED IN THE AFFIRMATIVE. OUR FILED RTE ON THE RELEASE READ: CLT. CAE. J53 SAV. J103 ORM. BITHO 5 MLB. ON DEP, SHORTLY AFTER LEVELING AT 12000' THE CTLR INQUIRED WHAT OUR AIRSPD WAS. I REPLIED '300 KTS', WHICH IS OUR NORMAL LEVEL FLT AIRSPD. HE INFORMED ME THAT THE SID REQUIRED US TO MAINTAIN 250 KTS UNTIL ADVISED. WE IMMEDIATELY SLOWED TO 250 KTS. THE CTLR HANDED US OFF TO ATLANTA CTR WHO ALSO INQUIRED IF WE WERE AT 250 KTS. AS WE LEVELED AT FL280, I INFORMED THE SECOND JAX CTR CTLR WE HAD TALKED TO WE WERE 'STILL AT 250 KTS'. HE SAID 'NORMAL SPD' AND THE FLT CONTINUED W/O FURTHER INCIDENT. IN CRUISE FLT I GOT OUT THE HORNET DEP TO SEE WHAT I HAD MISSED, AND DURING MY SECOND READING, CAUGHT THE 250 KT RESTRICTION.
