Narrative:
Approaching the end of runway 15 at bur, we were cleared for takeoff. There was a 1 min delay for our aircraft to get to the very end and turn around; set brakes and rev up engines (heavy aircraft that day). I announced to tower 'flight rolling'. Approximately, 1 mi after liftoff, switched to departure control (we were in turn to 210 degrees, van nuys 6 departure). Departure control said 'traffic 1 O'clock, 1 mi, 2500',' not seeing traffic I asked again his altitude and location. At this time I noted our altitude was the same as his reported altitude and I spotted the traffic in the right windshield. As we were in a right turn, I took control of the aircraft and rolled it into a 35-40 degree bank to the left; added maximum thrust, and pitched up to 25 degrees. We were asked why we made a left turn and I replied for diversionary reasons. Later, according to a passenger sitting on the right side in the cabin, he stated helicopter passed right under our aircraft and was also turning left and diving. I estimate there was no horizontal sep and 300' vertical sep. All this occurred at approximately 2 mi from end of runway, in the traffic area.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: NMAC IN THE ATA ARSA AT BUR. ACR MLG ON DEP AND ROTARY WING TRAFFIC CROSSING.
Narrative: APCHING THE END OF RWY 15 AT BUR, WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. THERE WAS A 1 MIN DELAY FOR OUR ACFT TO GET TO THE VERY END AND TURN AROUND; SET BRAKES AND REV UP ENGS (HVY ACFT THAT DAY). I ANNOUNCED TO TWR 'FLT ROLLING'. APPROX, 1 MI AFTER LIFTOFF, SWITCHED TO DEP CTL (WE WERE IN TURN TO 210 DEGS, VAN NUYS 6 DEP). DEP CTL SAID 'TFC 1 O'CLOCK, 1 MI, 2500',' NOT SEEING TFC I ASKED AGAIN HIS ALT AND LOCATION. AT THIS TIME I NOTED OUR ALT WAS THE SAME AS HIS RPTED ALT AND I SPOTTED THE TFC IN THE R WINDSHIELD. AS WE WERE IN A R TURN, I TOOK CTL OF THE ACFT AND ROLLED IT INTO A 35-40 DEG BANK TO THE L; ADDED MAX THRUST, AND PITCHED UP TO 25 DEGS. WE WERE ASKED WHY WE MADE A L TURN AND I REPLIED FOR DIVERSIONARY REASONS. LATER, ACCORDING TO A PAX SITTING ON THE R SIDE IN THE CABIN, HE STATED HELI PASSED R UNDER OUR ACFT AND WAS ALSO TURNING L AND DIVING. I ESTIMATE THERE WAS NO HORIZ SEP AND 300' VERT SEP. ALL THIS OCCURRED AT APPROX 2 MI FROM END OF RWY, IN THE TFC AREA.
