Narrative:
Had main gear indicator problem on retraction showing one gear not up and locked. Gear was confirmed up and locked by removing hydraulic pressure. Continued to destination following airspeed restriction in manual anyway, as we were unclr whether we had to abide by procedure with gear confirmed up. Maintenance checked and adjusted switch at next station, but we didn't write it up, as we still were unclear of our responsibility with just a switch malfunction (books vs far's) and a write-up would have grounded the aircraft for extensive maintenance checks. Light recurred after takeoff. Then we wrote it up because the problem obviously hadn't been fixed. Still unclear if we overstepped our authority here. More flexibility or at least clarity for problems like this should be allowed for in regulations and not leave us guessing.
