Narrative:
Shortly after takeoff from runway 11 at prc, small aircraft X was almost hit from behind and above by an old small aircraft Y (tail dragger). The small aircraft Y had departed after small aircraft X and failed to keep small aircraft X in visibility contact. We, in small aircraft X, were unaware of being overtaken by the small aircraft Y until it filled our windscreen. Since both aircraft were going away from the control tower, ATC personnel had a poor perspective for judging distance and sep between small aircraft X and the small aircraft Y. Due to the amount of training and general aviation flts taking place at ernest a. Love field in prescott, az, airport surveillance radar should be installed at love field prior to the almost inevitable midair collision and subsequent loss of life. Tower personnel at love field become overloaded with aircraft operations quite frequently, especially since many of the student pilots and transient pilots are unsure of their positions relative to the air traffic area. This causes congestion on tower frequencys which can prohibit other aircraft from making position reports.

Title: CLOSE PROX 2 GA SMA CLIMBING TO THE EAST FROM PRC.
Narrative: SHORTLY AFTER TKOF FROM RWY 11 AT PRC, SMA X WAS ALMOST HIT FROM BEHIND AND ABOVE BY AN OLD SMA Y (TAIL DRAGGER). THE SMA Y HAD DEPARTED AFTER SMA X AND FAILED TO KEEP SMA X IN VIS CONTACT. WE, IN SMA X, WERE UNAWARE OF BEING OVERTAKEN BY THE SMA Y UNTIL IT FILLED OUR WINDSCREEN. SINCE BOTH ACFT WERE GOING AWAY FROM THE CTL TWR, ATC PERSONNEL HAD A POOR PERSPECTIVE FOR JUDGING DISTANCE AND SEP BTWN SMA X AND THE SMA Y. DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF TRNING AND GENERAL AVIATION FLTS TAKING PLACE AT ERNEST A. LOVE FIELD IN PRESCOTT, AZ, ARPT SURVEILLANCE RADAR SHOULD BE INSTALLED AT LOVE FIELD PRIOR TO THE ALMOST INEVITABLE MIDAIR COLLISION AND SUBSEQUENT LOSS OF LIFE. TWR PERSONNEL AT LOVE FIELD BECOME OVERLOADED WITH ACFT OPS QUITE FREQUENTLY, ESPECIALLY SINCE MANY OF THE STUDENT PLTS AND TRANSIENT PLTS ARE UNSURE OF THEIR POSITIONS RELATIVE TO THE ATA.
