Narrative:
Taxied off gate X cmh. Completed after start checklist while westbound on ramp. Joined taxiway C just west of air carrier apron and proceeded to runway 10R. Approaching taxiway C4, I requested the before takeoff checklist. As the first officer began reading the checklist, he noticed and called to my attention an aircraft holding on taxiway C4, just left of our aircraft. I could distinguish only the white vertical stabilizer, no position/navigation lights were visible. I began to apply brakes, both the first officer and I felt what we assumed was our left wing contacting the small transport vertical stabilizer, and stopped on taxiway C, facing westbound. Approximately time of impact, XXXX local. We returned to gate for inspection. Other factors: the parallel taxiway C is very close to runway 10R/28L. For that reason I operated with taxi lights on either dim or extinguished, to avoid blinding oncoming landing/departing traffic. From our vantage point, taxiway C4 has a background field of red lights (runway end lighting 28L). I don't believe the small transport as as close to the hold short line as he could have been. Distance measured from centerline taxiway C to hold short line runway 10R is 90'. The small transport is only 30' long, therefore there should have been 12' of clearance.

Title: MLG TAXI FROM GATE STRIKES WING TIP AGAINST SMT VERTICAL STABILIZER.
Narrative: TAXIED OFF GATE X CMH. COMPLETED AFTER START CHKLIST WHILE WBND ON RAMP. JOINED TXWY C JUST W OF ACR APRON AND PROCEEDED TO RWY 10R. APCHING TXWY C4, I REQUESTED THE BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST. AS THE F/O BEGAN READING THE CHKLIST, HE NOTICED AND CALLED TO MY ATTN AN ACFT HOLDING ON TXWY C4, JUST LEFT OF OUR ACFT. I COULD DISTINGUISH ONLY THE WHITE VERTICAL STABILIZER, NO POS/NAV LIGHTS WERE VISIBLE. I BEGAN TO APPLY BRAKES, BOTH THE F/O AND I FELT WHAT WE ASSUMED WAS OUR LEFT WING CONTACTING THE SMT VERT STABILIZER, AND STOPPED ON TXWY C, FACING WBND. APPROX TIME OF IMPACT, XXXX LCL. WE RETURNED TO GATE FOR INSPECTION. OTHER FACTORS: THE PARALLEL TXWY C IS VERY CLOSE TO RWY 10R/28L. FOR THAT REASON I OPERATED WITH TAXI LIGHTS ON EITHER DIM OR EXTINGUISHED, TO AVOID BLINDING ONCOMING LNDG/DEPARTING TFC. FROM OUR VANTAGE POINT, TXWY C4 HAS A BACKGROUND FIELD OF RED LIGHTS (RWY END LIGHTING 28L). I DON'T BELIEVE THE SMT AS AS CLOSE TO THE HOLD SHORT LINE AS HE COULD HAVE BEEN. DISTANCE MEASURED FROM CENTERLINE TXWY C TO HOLD SHORT LINE RWY 10R IS 90'. THE SMT IS ONLY 30' LONG, THEREFORE THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN 12' OF CLRNC.
