Narrative:
As we took runway 6 for takeoff I advanced the throttles. An aural takeoff warning sound 'flap' was heard so we taxied clear of the runway. Since we could not immediately ascertain what was causing the warning we returned to the gate where we discovered that the stabilizer trim computer flap input wheel was incorrectly set. Contributing factors: the way the checklist is written, this item is close to the end of the checklist. The before takeoff checklist was rushed to 'take an immediate' ahead of an arriving aircraft and the item was inadvertently missed. We flew the aircraft in the night before and the flap input wheel was correctly set. Apparently the mechanics were in the cockpit overnight flipping switches, moving levers, and setting the flap input wheel to an abnormal position.

Title: ACR MLG TKOF ABORT BECAUSE TKOF WARNING ACTIVATED AS PWR WAS ADVANCED. STABILIZER TRIM WAS NOT SET CORRECTLY.

CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: THE WAY THE CHKLIST IS WRITTEN, THIS ITEM IS CLOSE TO THE END OF THE CHKLIST. THE BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST WAS RUSHED TO 'TAKE AN IMMEDIATE' AHEAD OF AN ARRIVING ACFT AND THE ITEM WAS INADVERTENTLY MISSED. WE FLEW THE ACFT IN THE NIGHT BEFORE AND THE FLAP INPUT WHEEL WAS CORRECTLY SET. APPARENTLY THE MECHS WERE IN THE COCKPIT OVERNIGHT FLIPPING SWITCHES, MOVING LEVERS, AND SETTING THE FLAP INPUT WHEEL TO AN ABNORMAL POS.
