Narrative:
Taxied aircraft onto active runway while still on ground control. Switched to tower and told to taxi clear. No other traffic or aircraft involved. Confusion in cockpit due to captain flying and captain in right seat distraction by weight and balance problems. Misconstrued ground control instructions to taxi ahead of waiting aircraft and taxied onto and then across active to reposition for otherwise normal takeoff. Captain in right seat is a check airman was somewhat uneasy performing first officer duties. This distraction me while trying to help him out and I thought we were cleared 'on to hold.' conversation with tower indicated no problems were created. I must pay closer attention to my own duties and let the first officer position perform his. If difficulties occur the aircraft should be stopped and confusion must be solved before further taxiing.

Title: FLT CREW OF MLG MADE UNAUTH RWY ENTRY.
Narrative: TAXIED ACFT ONTO ACTIVE RWY WHILE STILL ON GND CTL. SWITCHED TO TWR AND TOLD TO TAXI CLR. NO OTHER TFC OR ACFT INVOLVED. CONFUSION IN COCKPIT DUE TO CAPT FLYING AND CAPT IN R SEAT DISTR BY WEIGHT AND BALANCE PROBS. MISCONSTRUED GND CTL INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI AHEAD OF WAITING ACFT AND TAXIED ONTO AND THEN ACROSS ACTIVE TO REPOSITION FOR OTHERWISE NORMAL TKOF. CAPT IN R SEAT IS A CHK AIRMAN WAS SOMEWHAT UNEASY PERFORMING F/O DUTIES. THIS DISTR ME WHILE TRYING TO HELP HIM OUT AND I THOUGHT WE WERE CLRED 'ON TO HOLD.' CONVERSATION WITH TWR INDICATED NO PROBS WERE CREATED. I MUST PAY CLOSER ATTN TO MY OWN DUTIES AND LET THE F/O POS PERFORM HIS. IF DIFFICULTIES OCCUR THE ACFT SHOULD BE STOPPED AND CONFUSION MUST BE SOLVED BEFORE FURTHER TAXIING.
