Narrative:
Fay approach controller called slow traffic at 12 O'clock, 1 mi, our altitude. We saw an small aircraft at 11 O'clock, less than 100' away, at our altitude. Took evasive action. Controller should have given us immediate turn to 270 degrees instead of asking us to look for the traffic we almost hit. There was no time to look.
