Narrative:
Griswold airport, being on the connecticut shore of the long island sound, is an easy reference en route to frequent destinations in connecticut from ny for emergency etc, should overwater problems occur. Although I had never landed there I was familiar with its location, runways, elevation. I was informed upon landing that griswold is closed to transient traffic for liability reasons and repairs being made on the runways. It is not indicated as private on charts, the runways are not 'X'ed and flight service had no NOTAMS what so ever for griswold. Upon further investigation I only found a reference in the airport facility directory that the airport is closed to transients. Griswold is 25 NM from hto, my home base, and can be seen from the air. I was also told that extensive ultralight activity made it a hazardous airport.
