Narrative:
Descending to srq for approach ATC called traffic at 2 O'clock about 7-8 mi. Acquired visually. Maintained visual on VFR target as it passed behind us on the right. Received 'TA' about 6 mi out, -1100 ft as we descended through 6500 ft (- 500 ft) and received RA 'decrease descent' and then as we leveled at 6000 ft received 'climb' RA. We initiated climb to 6500 ft and returned to 6000 ft, deviating from clearance. We informed approach. We felt we were well clear at all times, and followed TCAS procedures.
