Narrative:
The copilot saw the other aircraft first at 12 O'clock position and slightly above our altitude. We were heading 345 degrees and the other aircraft was heading southwest. The other aircraft passed by our left wing as we reacted. No evasive action was taken by us as the danger was over as we took the controls. No injuries on board our aircraft. The other aircraft was a twin small transport. A TCAS was installed on our aircraft and was operating in the TA/RA mode. No warning was given by the TCAS until the other aircraft passed our left wing. The TCAS then gave a TA alert and the audio said 'traffic' one time. I looked at the display and it showed a yellow DOT at the 9 O'clock position with a plus 800 indication. No RA was given by the TCAS. The display indicted we were in the TA/RA mode. The copilot and I both believe the other aircraft was less than 800 ft above us. I looked to the left as the aircraft passed and it appeared to be at our altitude and about 500 ft laterally. We asked ATC about the traffic. The controller said he did not show the twin small transport on his radar. We filed a near midair collision report with ATC.

Title: CLOSE PROX ACR-MLG GA-SMT OF DWF.
Narrative: THE COPLT SAW THE OTHER ACFT FIRST AT 12 O'CLOCK POS AND SLIGHTLY ABOVE OUR ALT. WE WERE HDG 345 DEGS AND THE OTHER ACFT WAS HDG SW. THE OTHER ACFT PASSED BY OUR L WING AS WE REACTED. NO EVASIVE ACTION WAS TAKEN BY US AS THE DANGER WAS OVER AS WE TOOK THE CTLS. NO INJURIES ON BOARD OUR ACFT. THE OTHER ACFT WAS A TWIN SMT. A TCAS WAS INSTALLED ON OUR ACFT AND WAS OPERATING IN THE TA/RA MODE. NO WARNING WAS GIVEN BY THE TCAS UNTIL THE OTHER ACFT PASSED OUR L WING. THE TCAS THEN GAVE A TA ALERT AND THE AUDIO SAID 'TFC' ONE TIME. I LOOKED AT THE DISPLAY AND IT SHOWED A YELLOW DOT AT THE 9 O'CLOCK POS WITH A PLUS 800 INDICATION. NO RA WAS GIVEN BY THE TCAS. THE DISPLAY INDICTED WE WERE IN THE TA/RA MODE. THE COPLT AND I BOTH BELIEVE THE OTHER ACFT WAS LESS THAN 800 FT ABOVE US. I LOOKED TO THE L AS THE ACFT PASSED AND IT APPEARED TO BE AT OUR ALT AND ABOUT 500 FT LATERALLY. WE ASKED ATC ABOUT THE TFC. THE CTLR SAID HE DID NOT SHOW THE TWIN SMT ON HIS RADAR. WE FILED A NMAC RPT WITH ATC.
