Narrative:
Flight was cleared to taxi to runway 13L via taxiway P and north. We did so, following an airline medium large transport. When we stopped behind the medium large transport ground asked if we were aware that we had just crossed an active runway. This airport is so poorly marked it is unsafe. Hold short lines are so worn they are not visible and the signs are few. Supplemental information from acn 188156: clearance supposedly said to hold short of 13L. We followed an medium large transport who crossed the left and we followed him to 13C. Not hearing the clearance, I didn't stop captain from crossing 13L. I should have a copy of clearance to help captain and he should have had an idea also. Also, the marking is very poor on the hold short and the area is a ramp/taxi combination that is poorly labeled and very confusing.

Title: COMMUTER LTT UNAUTHORIZED RWY XING AT MDW.
Narrative: FLT WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 13L VIA TAXIWAY P AND N. WE DID SO, FOLLOWING AN AIRLINE MLG. WHEN WE STOPPED BEHIND THE MLG GND ASKED IF WE WERE AWARE THAT WE HAD JUST CROSSED AN ACTIVE RWY. WE FOLLOWED AN MLG WHO CROSSED THE L AND WE FOLLOWED HIM TO 13C. NOT HEARING THE CLRNC, I DIDN'T STOP CAPT FROM XING 13L. I SHOULD HAVE A COPY OF CLRNC TO HELP CAPT AND HE SHOULD HAVE HAD AN IDEA ALSO. ALSO, THE MARKING IS VERY POOR ON THE HOLD SHORT AND THE AREA IS A RAMP/TAXI COMBINATION THAT IS POORLY LABELED AND VERY CONFUSING.
