Narrative:
While executing the ILS to 36L clt, due to a distraction I deviated slightly from the localizer course. We had just been cleared for the approach. At time of localizer interception we experienced a ruptured duct in the cockpit pack. This created a very loud noise in the cockpit. It was so loud that we had to shout to be heard. My first instinct was to keep the airplane straight and level to try to indent the problem. Once I determined the problem which was the cockpit pack I noticed I was a half DOT off the localizer. Unfortunately it was to the right towards the parallel ILS 36R. The controller gave us instructions to turn and rejoin but I had already initiated the turn back on course. This incident was totally unintentional and was a result of the mechanical problems experienced.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR MLG TRACK HDG DEV DURING IAP ILS APCH TO RWY 36L AT CLT. MULTIPLE RWYS PARALLEL APCH WERE IN PROGRESS AT THE TIME.
Narrative: WHILE EXECUTING THE ILS TO 36L CLT, DUE TO A DISTR I DEVIATED SLIGHTLY FROM THE LOC COURSE. WE HAD JUST BEEN CLRED FOR THE APCH. AT TIME OF LOC INTERCEPTION WE EXPERIENCED A RUPTURED DUCT IN THE COCKPIT PACK. THIS CREATED A VERY LOUD NOISE IN THE COCKPIT. IT WAS SO LOUD THAT WE HAD TO SHOUT TO BE HEARD. MY FIRST INSTINCT WAS TO KEEP THE AIRPLANE STRAIGHT AND LEVEL TO TRY TO INDENT THE PROBLEM. ONCE I DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WHICH WAS THE COCKPIT PACK I NOTICED I WAS A HALF DOT OFF THE LOC. UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS TO THE R TOWARDS THE PARALLEL ILS 36R. THE CTLR GAVE US INSTRUCTIONS TO TURN AND REJOIN BUT I HAD ALREADY INITIATED THE TURN BACK ON COURSE. THIS INCIDENT WAS TOTALLY UNINTENTIONAL AND WAS A RESULT OF THE MECHANICAL PROBLEMS EXPERIENCED.
