Narrative:
We had been cleared to land on runway 34R. It was the first officer's leg and the first flight as a crew. As we rolled out the tower asked us to exit at the next right and pass in front of an oncoming large transport on the taxiway and to contact ground. Upon switching to ground the frequency was congested and we stopped short of the hold line since it appeared the large transport was not stopping. Upon acknowledging we were clear, the ground controller asked us to call the tower. We did and were criticized for not clearing the runway and passing in front of the large transport. I feel that I stopped on the side of caution since we could not get ground to talk with us and the large transport was not stopping. The controller said that he landed aircraft Y close behind us on runway 34R and since we had not cleared the runway completely that we caused a problem. I feel that until the aircraft on the runway clears that we still have the runway and should not barge into oncoming traffic until room is made for us to safely move off the runway environment and with a positive indication from ground and local that we know what they are going to do.

Title: ACFT Y LANDED ON OCCUPIED RWY HAD LTSS FROM ACR X NON ADHERENCE TO ATC CLRNC. PLTDEV.
Narrative: WE HAD BEEN CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 34R. IT WAS THE FO'S LEG AND THE FIRST FLT AS A CREW. AS WE ROLLED OUT THE TWR ASKED US TO EXIT AT THE NEXT R AND PASS IN FRONT OF AN ONCOMING LGT ON THE TAXIWAY AND TO CONTACT GND. UPON SWITCHING TO GND THE FREQ WAS CONGESTED AND WE STOPPED SHORT OF THE HOLD LINE SINCE IT APPEARED THE LGT WAS NOT STOPPING. UPON ACKNOWLEDGING WE WERE CLR, THE GND CTLR ASKED US TO CALL THE TWR. WE DID AND WERE CRITICIZED FOR NOT CLRING THE RWY AND PASSING IN FRONT OF THE LGT. I FEEL THAT I STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF CAUTION SINCE WE COULD NOT GET GND TO TALK WITH US AND THE LGT WAS NOT STOPPING. THE CTLR SAID THAT HE LANDED ACFT Y CLOSE BEHIND US ON RWY 34R AND SINCE WE HAD NOT CLRED THE RWY COMPLETELY THAT WE CAUSED A PROBLEM. I FEEL THAT UNTIL THE ACFT ON THE RWY CLRS THAT WE STILL HAVE THE RWY AND SHOULD NOT BARGE INTO ONCOMING TFC UNTIL ROOM IS MADE FOR US TO SAFELY MOVE OFF THE RWY ENVIRONMENT AND WITH A POSITIVE INDICATION FROM GND AND LCL THAT WE KNOW WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO.
