Narrative:
After smo on vectors for approach to lax the PNF switched to lax ground control on dual head radio thinking he was just preselecting it. After not hearing approach control for over a min we discovered error and returned to approach control to maintain our sequence for landing. Supplemental information from acn 201424: I called the watch supervisor and since we did not get out of sequence or cause anyone else to he was very cooperative and concerned that we were ok. Contributing factor: all night trans-pacific.
