Narrative:
After takeoff we were told to squawk XXXX. I looked down at the transponder which had 1200 in the window. Only then did I realize we had not received an ATC clearance to destination. With the advent of pre departure clearance on ACARS, it was very easy under the circumstances to miss the clearance - we had flown the same flight 10 times previously that month. It was surprising that we got as far as we did without an ATC 'strip' on us. The corrective action is plain old 'attention to detail.'
