Narrative:
During the arrival into charlotte, nc, on majic 5 arrival, ATC had cleared us from north of roanoke, va, VOR direct to mayos intersection. This clearance was complied with using omega navigation system. As we approached the vicinity of mayos a xchk off of lynchburg VOR we noted an error in our position contradictory to the position reported by omega. This was discussed with washington ATC and a correction made. No conflict with traffic existed and upon arrival our destination of charlotte, nc, both omegas were checked for position error and found to be in error by 39.9 NM on one system and 54.0 NM in error on the other system. This malfunction was entered in the aircraft maintenance log. Avionics maintenance personnel suspected error in omega transmission possibly a phase error.
