Narrative:
It was my first trip as a medium large transport line captain. It was the second day of a 3 day trip. After landing on runway 22R at ord and not being able to make the high speed turn off, tower told us to turn left on the 'old scenic' taxiway. Being new to the captain seat and knowing there was an aircraft behind us, I turned onto the old scenic and being in a rush, I made a hard left turn onto the parallel taxiway of runway 27R. The light transport behind me was told to go around. When the first officer called ground, we were asked if we understood that we were to make a right turn after exiting on the old scenic. I responded no, that we were told to make a left on the old scenic. We may have been told to make a right turn and may have even acknowledged it, but in the pressure of the moment, it is easy to get focused on 1 single task and block out everything else, especially when a person is in a new seat with different responsibilities.
