Narrative:
Taxi in at kbtv. Tower cleared us to back taxi on runway 15 to B taxiway. Taxi on B to hold short of runway 1-19. First officer turned off ground to call company. Captain taxied almost on to runway before reminded to hold short. The nose and possibly nosewheel were well on to runway. Stopped and an small aircraft landed and held short. Taxied to gate. Captain forgot clearance to hold short. Supplemental information from acn 223131: I acknowledged the hold short and in addition, I repeated the instructions to the captain after the readback. He acknowledged (to me) that he'd comply. I then said, 'I'm head down, you got 1.' this means that I'm off communication 1 trying to get a hold of company. Another factor is the pressure from capts to call company as soon as we're on the ground, which usually leads to only 1 set of eyes outside the cockpit.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR MLG HAD A RWY INCURSION. THE FO WAS 'HEADS DOWN,' WITH THE ATC RADIO OFF, COMMUNICATING WITH THE COMPANY.
Narrative: TAXI IN AT KBTV. TWR CLRED US TO BACK TAXI ON RWY 15 TO B TAXIWAY. TAXI ON B TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 1-19. FO TURNED OFF GND TO CALL COMPANY. CAPT TAXIED ALMOST ON TO RWY BEFORE REMINDED TO HOLD SHORT. THE NOSE AND POSSIBLY NOSEWHEEL WERE WELL ON TO RWY. STOPPED AND AN SMA LANDED AND HELD SHORT. TAXIED TO GATE. CAPT FORGOT CLRNC TO HOLD SHORT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 223131: I ACKNOWLEDGED THE HOLD SHORT AND IN ADDITION, I REPEATED THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CAPT AFTER THE READBACK. HE ACKNOWLEDGED (TO ME) THAT HE'D COMPLY. I THEN SAID, 'I'M HEAD DOWN, YOU GOT 1.' THIS MEANS THAT I'M OFF COM 1 TRYING TO GET A HOLD OF COMPANY. ANOTHER FACTOR IS THE PRESSURE FROM CAPTS TO CALL COMPANY AS SOON AS WE'RE ON THE GND, WHICH USUALLY LEADS TO ONLY 1 SET OF EYES OUTSIDE THE COCKPIT.
