Narrative:

We received aircraft in lax which required an 'a' check. Preflight was conducted before a check and a walkaround was done. After the a check, after takeoff in a climbing left turn, engine #2 outboard cowling latches came undone. Normal flight/landing in san diego. No emergency was declared. Cause at that time, problem was unknown. I think the problem occurred while performing 'a' check by the mechanic. Cowling latches weren't securely fastened.
