Narrative:
On our initial contact with dtw ground, ground instructed us to hold short O-10, plan on sequence in front of medium large transport on yankee short of O-10. Though I thought the instruction meant hold short of O-10, they might have meant hold short on 0-10, or at O-10, and captain crept part way onto O-10 in anticipation of sequence in front of the medium large transport on yankee. Ground proceeded to instruct the medium large transport to hold for us, and we taxied onto yankee in the proper sequence. 1 hour into flight we received ACARS message from company that our jet blast pushed a baggage cart into a widebody transport, causing damage. Never during taxi did we use excessive power. However, there was about a 20 KT wind blowing out of west. The additional thrust from our engines along with the wind might have been enough to move a cart into a widebody transport parked at the end of the concourse. Captain reasonably wanted to taxi onto O-10 prior to receiving clearance onto yankee so smts could get by us while we were waiting. Also, we taxied out on only 2 engines because of long line-up on yankee waiting for clearance on runway 21R.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR LGT BLEW A BAGGAGE CART INTO A WDB.
Narrative: ON OUR INITIAL CONTACT WITH DTW GND, GND INSTRUCTED US TO HOLD SHORT O-10, PLAN ON SEQUENCE IN FRONT OF MLG ON YANKEE SHORT OF O-10. THOUGH I THOUGHT THE INSTRUCTION MEANT HOLD SHORT OF O-10, THEY MIGHT HAVE MEANT HOLD SHORT ON 0-10, OR AT O-10, AND CAPT CREPT PART WAY ONTO O-10 IN ANTICIPATION OF SEQUENCE IN FRONT OF THE MLG ON YANKEE. GND PROCEEDED TO INSTRUCT THE MLG TO HOLD FOR US, AND WE TAXIED ONTO YANKEE IN THE PROPER SEQUENCE. 1 HR INTO FLT WE RECEIVED ACARS MESSAGE FROM COMPANY THAT OUR JET BLAST PUSHED A BAGGAGE CART INTO A WDB, CAUSING DAMAGE. NEVER DURING TAXI DID WE USE EXCESSIVE PWR. HOWEVER, THERE WAS ABOUT A 20 KT WIND BLOWING OUT OF W. THE ADDITIONAL THRUST FROM OUR ENGS ALONG WITH THE WIND MIGHT HAVE BEEN ENOUGH TO MOVE A CART INTO A WDB PARKED AT THE END OF THE CONCOURSE. CAPT REASONABLY WANTED TO TAXI ONTO O-10 PRIOR TO RECEIVING CLRNC ONTO YANKEE SO SMTS COULD GET BY US WHILE WE WERE WAITING. ALSO, WE TAXIED OUT ON ONLY 2 ENGS BECAUSE OF LONG LINE-UP ON YANKEE WAITING FOR CLRNC ON RWY 21R.
