Narrative:
Air carrier X passed over tnp at 11000 ft MSL and the controller gave us direct palm springs and descend to 7000 ft. The controller then gave us a 220 degree heading. Right after reaching 7000 ft, the GPWS gave us a 'terrain, terrain' warning and I began a climb until the warning quit. We were in an overcast layer at the time that started (tops) at 7800 ft. We broke out of the cloud layer and continued to the psp airport under visual conditions.
