Narrative:

While being vectored in IMC for ILS 02R at bna, GPWS/terrain warning occurred, first officer flying. Immediately initiated a climb until warning ceased. Leveled at 3500 ft MSL. Captain notified ATC of alert and altitude change. ATC thought we were responding to a TCASII RA. Captain confirmed it was a GPWS/terrain warning and correctly verified altimeter settings. Radio altimeter indicated approximately 1600 ft AGL. Approach was continued to an uneventful landing. Note: on subsequent approach in VFR conditions, crew noticed hill with microwave antenna in the same area as previous GPWS alert.

Title: AN ACR MLG CLBED IN RESPONSE TO A GPWS WARNING.

Narrative: WHILE BEING VECTORED IN IMC FOR ILS 02R AT BNA, GPWS/TERRAIN WARNING OCCURRED, FO FLYING. IMMEDIATELY INITIATED A CLB UNTIL WARNING CEASED. LEVELED AT 3500 FT MSL. CAPT NOTIFIED ATC OF ALERT AND ALT CHANGE. ATC THOUGHT WE WERE RESPONDING TO A TCASII RA. CAPT CONFIRMED IT WAS A GPWS/TERRAIN WARNING AND CORRECTLY VERIFIED ALTIMETER SETTINGS. RADIO ALTIMETER INDICATED APPROX 1600 FT AGL. APCH WAS CONTINUED TO AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG. NOTE: ON SUBSEQUENT APCH IN VFR CONDITIONS, CREW NOTICED HILL WITH MICROWAVE ANTENNA IN THE SAME AREA AS PREVIOUS GPWS ALERT.
