Narrative:
Our company procedures have us call for a pushback clearance from airlines ramp control prior to pushback in all cases. If we are going to be pushed onto a taxiway, our tug driver must indicate so to the pilot. We then get clearance from ground to push onto the taxiway. This morning the tug driver failed to advise us that he would be pushing us back into taxiway Z and we did not catch this until we were already on taxiway Z.
