Narrative:
We were running late so did not file a flight plan but did call and get flight following. Living in az, it never occurred to me that we could enter an ADIZ flying from a united states city to a united states city, but I did. I filed an IFR flight plan on the return flight.

Title: PLT OF AN SMA SEL ACFT FAILED TO FILE A VFR FLT PLAN IN XING AN ADIZ AIRSPACE.
Narrative: WE WERE RUNNING LATE SO DID NOT FILE A FLT PLAN BUT DID CALL AND GET FLT FOLLOWING. LIVING IN AZ, IT NEVER OCCURRED TO ME THAT WE COULD ENTER AN ADIZ FLYING FROM A UNITED STATES CITY TO A UNITED STATES CITY, BUT I DID. I FILED AN IFR FLT PLAN ON THE RETURN FLT.
