Narrative:
We received our clearance through ACARS. The first part of the clearance was the same as the filed route of flight, but there was a change to the routing at about the midpoint of the route with a return to our filed routing shortly thereafter. For some reason, we didn't catch the change. The center controller was very sharp, and caught us before we got too far off course. Even though I read the clearance off the ACARS screen, for some reason I 'saw' what I expected and not what was really there.

Title: FLC OF AN MLG ACR ACFT INADVERTENTLY DEVIATED FROM ASSIGNED TRACK DUE TO NOT FOLLOWING A CHANGE TO THEIR FILED RTING RECEIVED BY PRE DEP CLRNC.
Narrative: WE RECEIVED OUR CLRNC THROUGH ACARS. THE FIRST PART OF THE CLRNC WAS THE SAME AS THE FILED RTE OF FLT, BUT THERE WAS A CHANGE TO THE RTING AT ABOUT THE MIDPOINT OF THE RTE WITH A RETURN TO OUR FILED RTING SHORTLY THEREAFTER. FOR SOME REASON, WE DIDN'T CATCH THE CHANGE. THE CTR CTLR WAS VERY SHARP, AND CAUGHT US BEFORE WE GOT TOO FAR OFF COURSE. EVEN THOUGH I READ THE CLRNC OFF THE ACARS SCREEN, FOR SOME REASON I 'SAW' WHAT I EXPECTED AND NOT WHAT WAS REALLY THERE.
