Narrative:

While en route to dca from mci level at FL330, we had to deviate left and right off course for WX. Finally, we were cleared direct to bucko fpr. Shortly thereafter, we were commanded to turn to a heading of 070 degrees immediately. I disengaged the autoplt and started a turn to 070 degrees. Within a few seconds we received a TA followed by an RA on the TCASII. We honored the commands and advised ATC as we descended to 32400 ft. We briefly leveled off, then started back up to our cruising altitude, and proceeded on course. The following day I discussed the incident with quality assurance specialist at the ZOB. He advised me that the controller error had been rectified.
