Narrative:
We were in cruise flight at FL350 and received a TCASII TA followed immediately by an RA alert giving us approximately a 2000 FPM descent rate which we immediately followed. We advised ATC and they cleared us to FL310. ATC advised there was no observed traffic within 12 mi of our location, but understood our need to follow the RA and that there was no conflict observed. We never saw any traffic which showed to be at our altitude at 6 O'clock, almost right at us.
