Narrative:
TCASII showed traffic at our altitude closing rapidly from 3 O'clock position. TCASII advised climb. We left 29000 ft and climbed to 30000 ft. TCASII showed target going beneath us. After traffic was clear, we returned to 29000 ft. We notified ATC. The controller said an light transport was the traffic, but insisted that the light transport was at 28000 ft. We did not see traffic.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF AN MLG ACR ACFT TOOK EVASIVE ACTION AND CLBED FROM ASSIGNED ALT IN RESPONSE TO A TCASII RA DURING HIGH ALT CRUISE.
Narrative: TCASII SHOWED TFC AT OUR ALT CLOSING RAPIDLY FROM 3 O'CLOCK POS. TCASII ADVISED CLB. WE LEFT 29000 FT AND CLBED TO 30000 FT. TCASII SHOWED TARGET GOING BENEATH US. AFTER TFC WAS CLR, WE RETURNED TO 29000 FT. WE NOTIFIED ATC. THE CTLR SAID AN LTT WAS THE TFC, BUT INSISTED THAT THE LTT WAS AT 28000 FT. WE DID NOT SEE TFC.
